Day 3 - Dornoch and the surrounding area
Sunshine and clear skies - to start with
KooWe were pleased to wake to a calm and sunny morning. We planned to have a look around Dornoch and any notable nearby attractions.
In the local area there isn't anything that you can compare to the nearby Dunrobin Castle, so in the mornings sunshine off we went.
Dunrobin Castle is the stately home of the Earls of Sutherland (who own most of this top end of Scotland). Sited overlooking the North Sea the Castle and its gardens are open to the paying public.
We also watched a falconry display while we were there.
There is a small museum on site that houses a typical Victorian collection of stuffed wild animals and big game trophies along with other historical artefacts relating to the stately landowners.
After a quick tearoom visit, for tea and cake, we returned to Dornoch to have a better look in dry daylight.
Jennifer had got her eye on a chocolate shop, and wanted to visit to sample the produce.
It wasn't long until the heavens opened once again. We took shelter in our accommodation.
We ventured out a little later when the rain stopped for an excellent evening meal at the Coach House restaurant.
