Day 5 - Dunnet to Altnaharra

A bright day on along the north coast..

Day 5 - Dunnet to Altnaharra

We started our days journey from Dunnet, noting the clear skies we pondered returning to Dunnet Head to sample the noted panoramic views.

Rather than unsettle our leisurely days schedule we rode west towards Thurso. The sea views back to Dunnet Head, and ahead to Scrabster, where impressive.

After negotiating the indicator-free-zone that was somewhat congested with braindead rental campervan drivers (Thurso - metropolis of the north) we continued west, crossing our fingers as we rode past Dounereay nuclear establishment.

We rode through the coastal villages of Melvich and Strathy, watching the distant mountains rise up as we neared Bettyhill.

After crossing River Naver we turned off the main roads and rode north through the small crofting communities of Torrisdale, Achtoty and Skerray at before rejoining the main road.

We bypassed Tongue on a small single track lochside road running along the Kyle of Tongue, crossing the loch via the causeway before riding the long way to Tongue on the old single track road that skirts the west side of the loch.

After some refreshment in Tongue we rode south to our accommodation at the Altnaharra Hotel.

Apart from a few spots of rain, a bright sunny enjoyable day.
