Day 6 - Altnaharra - A Ride Through the Glens
A circular tour of local glens
Today's activities involved a circular route of some 65 miles, starting and finishing at Altnaharra, taking in the local scenery.
Riding north east we travelled through Strathnaver, the fertile farming land that sits astride the River Naver. The first section of single track road followed the west shore of Loch Naver. The road then followed the west bank of the River Naver to its estuary near to Bettyhill.
We turned west, following the coastal road, once more over the causeway at the Kyle of Tongue, continuing west to Hope where we turned south following the east shore of Loch Hope. We skirted the west side of Ben Hope then the east bank of the River Strathmore.
The road climbed steadily to Loch Meadie, then followed the course of the River Meadie until it's confluence with the River Mudale just before arriving back at Altnaharra for couple of drinks and a hearty evening meal.
An enjoyable day out, some low cloud and rain offset by bouts of sunshine.
